Winning With Your New Year’s Resolutions

January 8, 2017 Casey Sharperson

Happy New Year!

Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?

If you do, chances are that there’s at least one that relates to your health, leisure, wealth, or relationships. The resolutions are likely things that you’ve desired to do or accomplish, but just haven’t gotten around to. In fact, according to Nielson, the top resolutions of 2015 included traveling more, spending less, and of course, losing weight.

I LOVE that a new year gives me a reason to reflect on the previous year. I consider:

  • What worked and what didn’t work?
  • Am I where I thought I would be?
  • Where do I want to be?
  • Am I snatched enough? (kidding… kind of)

From there I get to list making, vision boarding, and dreaming about what’s next (which so fun - #nerdlife).

After all, future success depends on today’s decisions.

The next step is defining factor. The action that separates true transformation from the 81- 92% of people who fail to keep New Year’s Resolutions.

PRAYER.

“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jeremiah 33:3

As Christians, we have an opportunity to seek a Heavenly Father, who will show us things about ourselves that others are afraid to tell us. He’ll reveal exactly what steps to take and decisions to make this new year. We can ask him exactly what our resolutions should be.

The reason that resolutions fail is because the “why” just isn’t being enough.

“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

A resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not to do something. However, our human will-power pales in comparison to God’s will and power. We must lean on Him to accomplish the goals and desires that He’s placed on our hearts.

But if we make plans without considering our Lord, where does our faith truly lie?
