Failing to Keep up with the Kardashians

December 12, 2016 Casey Sharperson

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Albert Einstein

Social media is THE best. It’s entertaining, informative, and convenient. In fact, I’ve been able to connect to so many amazing people through social media. Honestly, the meme below is the story of my life.

Because social media is so amazing, it becomes the default outlet when there’s free time. So here you are, scrolling, watching, and swiping for inspiration. Now, you need new makeup brushes, a new wardrobe, an upgraded bank account, and a new relationship. Now, you’re dissatisfied with your portion and...

inspiration has morphed into the golden handcuffs of comparison.

Of course, this isn’t intentional at all, it just happened! You’ve fallen into a cycle of editing your life and changing to be like these Insta-celebs. You’re also finding it fails, because more stuff is never enough.

Exhausted (and probably broke) are the results of chasing the desire to fit into someone else’s portion.

Judging your worth and value against someone else is only a recipe for pain.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

Here’s a beautiful reminder, you are made in God’s image. You have dominion over your land (or your life). You have the chance to dominate the opportunities that God has given you by using your gifts and talents. Trying to step out of your unique design is like that fish trying to climb the tree. It’s outside of it’s nature.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord." Isaiah 55:8

Understand that in God’s infinite wisdom and sovereignty, he made you exactly as you are to experience exactly what you’re experiencing right now. Don’t allow other people’s apparent success to hinder your progress.

Major Keys:

  1. Focus on your portion.
  2. Celebrate others instead of fueling bitterness.
  3. Thrive in your gifts.

True confidence, contentment and joy can be found here... not keeping up with the Jones' or the Kardashians or any of the "housewives."
